September 11, 2013 – Odd Day

nPostednon September 11, 2013

n

n

n

nOnnJanuary 3, 2005, somebody realized that he could write the date asn1/3/5. (This somebody was an American. Most people in the world writenthe day first, then the month and year.)

n

n

n

n“That’snodd,” that American somebody thought. “The first threenconsecutive odd numbers make up the date!”

n

n

n

n

n

n“Ooo,nI’m awed!” somebody’s friend said.

n

n

n

n“You’renodd?” somebody asked. “Or awed?”

n

n

n

nTruthnbe told, somebody and his friend were both a little bit odd to benawed. Even odder, they decided to celebrate the day as Odd Day. Theyntold all their friends: Do your odds and ends, give your friend anhigh-five, and watch The Odd Couple.

n

n

n

nItnwas so much fun being awed about odd numbers for an entire day, thentwo decided to sit down and write all the other dates that would benthree consecutive odd numbers. And this is what they came up with:

n

n3/5/7n– March 5, 2007

n

n5/7/9n– May 7, 2009

n

n7/9/11n– July 9, 2011

n

n9/11/13n– September 11, 2013

n

n11/13/15n– November 13, 2015

n

n

n

n

Have you ever noticed that some
numbers are just a little bit…odd?

n

nAndnthen somebody and his friend realized that that would be the end ofnthe parade of odd days, for an entire century!

n

n

n

nOfncourse, you probably noticed that today’s date is in there. However,n9/11 is a special day of remembrance, every year, so the emphasis onnoddity has been muted.

n

n

n

n(Bynthe way, remember when I mentioned that most of the world writesndates in this fashion: day/month/year? All of them will celebratenthis year’s odd day on November 9!)

n

n

n

nAlsonon this date:
