Envision a journey along a dimly lit rural road, interrupted by the sudden appearance of a man-sized creature hurtling towards your windshield. This eerie encounter became a reality for a 53-year-old LaCrosse man, known as Wohali, and his 25-year-old son on a fateful evening in late September. The aftermath was unexpected and unsettling — both individuals succumbed to immediate illness. The son, behind the wheel, swerved the truck and pulled over, overcome by repeated bouts of vomiting. Wohali, too, experienced a wave of nausea, and both endured the effects for a week. The son, deeply disturbed, chose silence on the matter, while Wohali felt compelled to share the experience, emphasizing the importance of awareness about the unknown entities that exist.
This encounter, labeled “The Man Bat,” unfolded on Tuesday, Sept. 26, on Briggs Road near LaCrosse between 9:15 and 9:30 pm. The creature, a 6-7 feet tall entity with bat-like, leathery wings spanning 10-12 feet, sported long claws on its feet and hands, coupled with a snarling expression. The unsettling feeling of anger emanating from the creature lingered with both witnesses. Wohali vividly described the moment when their truck’s headlights captured the bat-like creature mid-air, narrowly avoiding a collision with the windshield. Rows of sharp teeth adorned its large muzzle, and a horrifying scream pierced the night as it ascended into the air. The encounter left both men physically ill, with a disturbing image etched in their memories.
The investigation took me to Briggs Road on October 14, accompanied by Wohali and a seasoned deer hunter. The eerie discovery at the exact spot of the sighting was a mutilated deer carcass with missing haunches. Despite our efforts, there were no visible footprints, but the peculiar condition of the carcass raised questions. The absence of blood and the seemingly deliberate removal of specific body parts hinted at an unexplained phenomenon.
