Magical Hidden Beach at the Isla Marietas, Mexico

Hidden Beach in Mexico

Have you ever seen Marieta Islands, which located about 20 nautical miles from Puerto Vallarta, lies an idyllic beach paradise hidden underneath a hole in the ground. Called the “Hidden Beach” or “Playa del Amor” (Beach of Love), this one-of-a-kind natural wonder has remained untouched by human hands for many years.

The Hidden Beach still remains unsullied due to the difficulty of getting to it. But in any case being hoisted down from a helicopter, the only known way to access it is though a very small opening on the tidal side of its cavernous walls and this short tunnel, measuring fifty feet with only 6 feet of air space between water and rock, can only be traversed by swimming or scuba diving, and only during low tide.

The island was formed thousand years ago and protected by the government of Mexico, and visitors who intend to enter the reserve must have a permit. Now it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

There are several coastal activities to enjoy after taking in the surroundings and a few pinches to confirm that this is real life. There are coral reefs for spectacular snorkelling, and the flora and animals make it the ideal location for nature lovers. Additionally, there is a sandbank for tanning and lots of shade for warm days.

A history and explanation of the development of the caves are sometimes necessary before caving adventures. It is the same at this secret love beach. Unfortunately for those who like to daydream, this cave has a darker past.

Many people think that the bombing exercises conducted by the Mexican government during World War 1 led to the sunroof that built this attraction. The Marieta Islands were viewed as the ideal location for military experimentation in the early 1900s since they were (and still are) entirely uninhabited.

After repeated battles to halt damaging human intervention, the secret beach was designated a national park (Parque Nacional Islas Marietas) in 2005. The only activities now permitted on the island are swimming, kayaking, and falling in love.
