Black Eyed Children
The Black Eyed Children was one of many subjects that I couldn’t fit into my new fairy dictionary, so I thought I’d write about them here today. They give an intriguing piece of more contemporary folklore that falls in the between of an urban legend and a ghost story but yet has reports of sightings in both Britain and America. In my opinion, they are either a type of fairy or a disguise worn by fairies.
These creatures, known as Black Eyed Youngsters, are dressed in white, resemble children between the ages of 6 and 16, and either lack eyes or have black eyes. They are incredibly pale and dressed in what would be considered out-of-date or uncharacteristic for kids their age.
They often approach a lone individual, frequently in a car or a residence, pretending to be lost and in need of assistance before vanishing. Witnesses describe an aura of malice surrounding them. They could show up alone or in pairs, avoid making eye contact at first to cover their black eyes, and then make eye contact just before they go. According to some stories, they knocked on a door or window and asked to enter, saying they couldn’t do so unless the individual gave them permission. Some persons who have seen the Children also claim to have had a subversion of their volition and to have had the want to do things they know they shouldn’t, like unlock a locked door in the face of fear or peril.
In 1996, Texas-based writer Brian Bethel published the first testimony in the public of coming across two Black Eyed Children who asked to come into his car in a vacant parking lot. Bethel maintains that the meeting was genuine and that he told the event exactly as it occurred, despite the fact that it was afterwards dismissed as a rumour. All around the United States and Great Britain, Black Eyed Children have been the subject of other reports. There are parallels between the accounts of these events and some older tales about ghosts and a form of fairy known as “White Ladies” (although there are important differences with the White Ladies, who are adults and don’t try to enter homes).
According to several theories, the Black Eyed Children might be everything from ghosts to aliens to vampires to demons. My own hypothesis is that at least some of them are fairies, most likely of a malicious disposition. These traits speak more to me of fairies than ghosts, vampires, or aliens; they mostly seem human but dress in slightly out-of-date or strange attire, which is something often claimed of fairies; they appear to be able to interact with the physical world easily but can vanish at will; and they appear to be able to affect people’s emotions and willpower. However, no one is clear of what they are, so feel free to offer your own thoughts in this area.
Aliens
A bunch of young people from my area were viewing the Hale Bopp comet in the spring of 1997. After some time, we began to observe two dots, one red and one white, circling one other and making abrupt motions in all directions, unlike any aircraft I had ever seen or had since. They occasionally combined into a single ship and then launched three smaller craft, but we weren’t sure if it was a craft because they just seemed to be balls of light. This continued for a few hours. They moved into the darkness at a lightning-fast pace just as the lights vanished. Fearful of what we had seen, we all returned home.
The following day, our little local newspaper’s front page reported that it had received multiple calls. They said that the nearby airport was doing airplane testing. We still occasionally discuss it if I run across my pals from that night. Although none of us can be certain of what we saw, we have never before witnessed anything like that.
Bigfoot Family
A traffic camera shot with hazy animals in the distance that the Arizona Department of Transportation shared on Facebook prompted a conspiracy theory discussion. “Today in the late afternoon, we may have seen a family of Bigfoot on SR 260 close to Heber. How do you feel? “The photo’s text was written by the Department of Transportation.
With over 3,500 shares and over 2,750 likes, that image proved that Bigfoot’s are genuine and best left alone, according to many Facebook users.
However, a lot of Facebook users immediately pointed out the post’s humorous tone from the Department of Transportation.
The Department of Transportation put a stop to the Bigfoot rumors by acknowledging that the message was made in jest.
Dept. spokesperson Tim Tait told ABC News, “We always try to have a little fun with our Facebook and Twitter accounts.” “By doing this, we can provide news that includes a little bit of entertainment as well as information on traffic jams and crashes. One of those attempts was this posting; it caught our eye and we believed it could make some folks laugh.”
