Police are hunting for a woman who was pictured going to the toilet on a war memorial, on the day Britain marked 100 years since the Battle of the Somme.
The monument in Grays, Essex, carried the names of hundreds who died in the First and Second World Wars, and the Korean War.
Essex Police want to track down the woman.
A worker told the Brentwood Gazette they believed it was a member of a group which had been causing trouble for days.
They said: ‘It is unfortunate to hear. They were absolutely p***ed.We have had ambulances and paramedics around here wasting their time.
‘There have been instances where they are laying on the floor.
‘It is just disgusting.’
A police spokesman said: ‘Essex Police has been made aware of a photograph of a woman outraging public decency in circulation and is investigating.
‘Enquiries are ongoing.
