Consequently, Governor Nyesom Wike who is under pressure has forced the current speaker of the house, Ikunyi-Awaji-Ibani to resign his position. This is to make way for one of Wike’s loyal boy.
The person to be made Speaker pro-tempora by Governor Wike is one of the few whose election sack nullified by the Tribunal. The plan is to front him as legitimate if Supreme Court sack Wike and President Buhari is made to appoint a Sole Administrator for Rivers State.
Rt. Hon. Awaji-Ibani resigned from office at exactly 6:57pm immediately after passing the N307b 2016 budget as presented to the house by Governor Wike.
Speaking about his resignation, the speaker said “in life, there is time for everything. I was called to serve and I think I have served you well. At this juncture, I want to announce that I am stepping aside for reasons best known to me.”
