When you are working from home, you are becoming the boss for yourself. For many people, that is the biggest challenge; being responsible for your own work means that you have higher chances to abandon your workload. Since there is nobody that will chastise you for delaying the deadline or such, procrastination often happens.
Naturally, you do not feel rush because the pressure is different from working at an office with a manager or supervisor watching over your performance. Maybe you are the boss for yourself, but you are not always the best taskmaster when it comes to work from home.
To avoid procrastination when working from home, one thing that you can try is giving yourself adequate reward after finishing each major task. There are several examples in applying this idea, for example:
1. If you are in the middle of a big project making, make sure that you reward yourself at the end of the day. Make a plan for watching movies, ordering your favorite pizza, or visiting a café. These things can encourage you to hurry up and get things done. Or, if the project you are doing is really big in measure, set up several goals to finish and make sure you reward yourself after each goal is finished.
2. Set your deadlines earlier than in your actual To Do list. If you are getting behind in your work, write down a deadline that is earlier than it actually is. Since you are busy, you are likely to forget when the real deadline is and thus end up getting things done earlier than you actually need to.
3. If it is possible, schedule your appointment at the end of the day. By doing this, you are forced to stay on track during the day, or you will miss your appointment.
