Brazil and Barcelona legend Rivaldo has called on Jurgen Klopp to give Philippe Coutinho another chance to rekindle his dimming career at Liverpool.
The Brazilian is currently the odd player at Barcelona and looks certain to warm the bench more next season rather than start games due to arrival of Antoine Griezmann and soon Neymar.
But before that happens, Rivaldo wants his country man to go back to Liverpool and handle the pressure or stay at Barcelona and prove he is good enough at the club.
“If he decides to join Liverpool, they will become stronger, but they are European champions and that will add more pressure for him, as it’s tough to win it successively”, Rivaldo told BetFair when asked if Coutinho should return to Liverpool.
“It would be a big challenge for both club and player. Remember, they were Champions League finalist and then winners in consecutive seasons after Coutinho’s departure, so if he does return, he’ll face that extra burden to win trophies for them”.
Rivaldo is not too convinced Coutinho will return to Liverpool, he will want to stay and fight for his place.
He added; “The chance of a return to Liverpool could be beneficial for him, but i’m not sure if he is thinking of going back to England. He might stay at Barcelona to try to raise his game and prove his value, showing that he can get through that bump in the road.
“He is coming back form winning a Copa America title and his confidence is high, so it’s hard to say if he’ll stay or go.
“I really appreciate his qualities as a player and think he has time t show his best at Camp Nou this season. Let’s wait and see.. “.
Coutinho is currently been used by Barcelona to lure Neymar to the club. The Bluagrana giants reportedly offered Philippe Coutino and Ivan Rakitic plus £40m for Neymar which was rejected by PSG.
PSG want more money for Neymar and could accept Coutinho plus £70m for him.
