In this post, there are often references to problems experienced by another country from the past few centuries or so.
I’m going to make a connection today to the first Tea Party and colonial America.
For those unfamiliar, the original Tea Party was organized by colonists who refused to pay taxes to King George III of the United Kingdom. As a result, they spilled tons of British tea into Boston Harbor.
“No taxation without representation” was the reason these teabaggers protested.
They are paying taxes to a ruler who does not represent their interests.
“No representation, no taxes.”
This phrase can be interpreted in two different ways by using its two parts.
Today’s Tea Party activists want no taxes, while those of the past want representation.
In other words, while today’s teabaggers want representation without paying taxes, the original teabaggers preferred to pay taxes instead of representing their rights to life, liberty, and enjoyment.
The irony of the situation is that today’s Tea Party gives power to a small group that cares little about the rights of all Americans.
They are putting the power of the country in the hands of a select few, which the real teabaggers are fighting against.
Today’s teabaggers are condemning the democratic government built by our forefathers.
In fact, they have the audacity to call themselves patriots when they are redcoats and leading us back to some kind of regime similar to the British monarchy.
