Used Cars 1980 Movie Summery
Rudy Russo is a salesman from Mesa who wants to run for state senate. He works at the New Deal used car dealership owned by Luke Fuchs. Luke’s twin brother and arch-rival Roy L. Fuchs (also portrayed by Warden) is fighting tooth and nail to save his lot from being razed to make room for a planned motorway exit. Roy drives Luke’s 1957 Chevrolet Two-Ten around the block with Luke in the passenger seat, causing him to die of a heart attack. Rudy enlists the aid of his coworker Jeff and mechanic Jim to bury Luke in an Edsel that was previously New Deal’s sign ornament to prevent Roy from inheriting anything.
Barbara Jane (Deborah Harmon), Luke’s estranged daughter, comes to the lot in the hopes of reconnecting with him after more than ten years when she dropped out of college to live on a hippie commune, but Rudy takes her out on a date and unwittingly encourages her to remain in town. Roy feels he now owns New Deal, but Rudy informs him that Barbara is the new owner since she is Luke’s daughter. Barbara eventually finds the sham surrounding her father’s death and dismisses Rudy, Jeff, and Jim for their part in it.
